64 – Wealth

“–Poor man.
Can you imagine
What it must be like
To live in such misery?”

The fat lady rejoined
The group of tourists
And climbed back into
The air-conditioned bus.

She never looked back,
None of them did.
The old man didn’t fit
Into the script of their vacation.

They left the village
In a cloud of dust.

Was he really poor?
He didn’t think so.
There was a roof above his head
And food on his table.

They had so many things
But enjoyed nothing.

The old man shed a tear for them.
They were so busy running
From themselves.

None of them ever knew
That old man had given them
The only thing they really wanted.

He cared.
