58 – Envelopes

They were thin,
And wide,
And white.

He didn’t want
To open them.

His hands were shaking
Just a little bit
As he finally
Broke the seal.

Memories of a strong man
Carrying me on his shoulders
Filled my mind as I saw him
Break down and cry.

I didn’t need
To read the test results.

A single word stood out.

Terminal.

I put my arms around him,
And let him cry.
