577 – Build

–I’m not sure about this. I mean, I know it’s my job and everything, but I still feel terribly under qualified.

–Don’t worry too much about it. Upper management always makes it sound extremely solemn and important, but this things are no longer as delicate as they used to be. Nowadays they’re all cheaply mass produced, just set the parameters, jumpstart it and it will keep going all by itself until it runs out of juice.

–Still, isn’t it a big responsibility? I mean, what if I mess something up? There’s gonna be things living in there and they will have to endure the consequences of my mistakes.

–I told you, it doesn’t work like that anymore. These are just like snap-on kits. Ready to run right out of the box. And even if you do manage to mess it up, all you have to do is hard-reboot it… or get a new one from dispatch. they are so cheap you can afford to screw things every once in a while.

–That sounds somewhat… disappointing. I was kinda hoping it would be more, I don’t know, special. It being the first time I build a universe and everything.

–Welcome to the age of production-driven management, we’re no longer artisans. Just get the damned thing running, will you? I’d like to get back home in time for supper.

-SIGH… Ok, ok… I’ll boot it up…

LET THERE BE LIGHT!
