50 – Rewind

This wasn’t going to be easy.
Not that it ever was.

Once again
He had failed to prevent it.
Once again
She laid dead at the bottom of the cliff.

The tingling of his skin
Like static electricity,
Ran thru every hair
On his body.

He closed his eyes.
It wouldn’t make it better,
But at least this way he found
He was less disoriented.

He knew the feeling well.
First the sudden blinding flash,
Then the cold
Eating right into his bones.

It had become almost routine.

Once again
He saw her walking up the hill.
Once again
He ran trying to stop her.

This time he took the high road.
No longer loosing time
Crossing the river.

This time he tried to cut her path
Before she climbed
Towards the lookout.

This time he would not fail.

His foot hit a hidden root.
He fell face first
On the grassy slope.

Once again
He saw her watch the sea.
Once again
He tried to warn her.
Once again
He saw her slip on the wet rocks
Once again
He saw her disappear over the edge.

The tingling of his skin
Like static electricity,
Ran thru every hair
On his body.

He closed his eyes.
