496 – Refuge

Fire, smoke, mad laughter,
Running naked through wild thorns.

Nagging voices in your head
Mocking, scolding, judging, hurting.

Eyes wide open, to see nothing.
Mouth that screams, without a sound.

Not here, not there,
Not then, not now.

Ground that melts beneath your feet,
Sky closed like a glass dome.

An ever smiling kabuki mask,
Screaming “sanity is my middle name!”

Slightly trembling fingers
Reaching into darkness.

The touch of a friend’s hand,
Honest, caring eyes.

A silent open heart,
Inviting you to share.
