476 – Morning run

Cold pre-dawn air
Dancing on bare skin.
Smells of rain and gasoline
Floating in the breeze.

Running feet
At a steady pace.

Pale electric light
Draws war-paint with tree shadows
On the sleeping city’s
Concrete face.

Flowing breathe,
Like a silent song.

Scattered creatures
Crossing paths in silence.
Some freshly awake,
Some scurrying to their hiding places.

Precious instants,
Trapped in time.

Flowers and trash,
Homeless ghosts and angels,
All cuddle close together
In unexpected places.

The simple joy
Of being alive.
