473 – Irony

So you are immortal?

Yes.

How did you become immortal?

I…don’t know. I just didn’t die.

So you were born like this?

I told you I don’t know.

It’s still amazing though.

Amazing?

Of course. I wish I was immortal.

No you don’t.

But… All the incredible things you must can do. Learn new things. Visit places…

What for? I’ve learned so many things that no longer matter. Visited places no one remembers. Made friends and had families just to see them all grow old and die.

That’s… such a cynical way to put it.

Perhaps. But you have no idea how fortunate you are to be mortal.

Are you kidding?

No, I’m deadly serious. You see, even if you’re not fully conscious of it, you know your life will end. This drives your need to learn and experience. I really envy you.

Why would you possibly envy me?

Because, ironic as it sounds, death is what gives life meaning. You want to experience life because you know someday you’ll die. I have no reason left to go on living… but I just can’t die.
