Everybody tells you
How stupid you are.
You won’t go very far.
Clean-cut and obedient.
You’re the last of the pack.
That’s what the other kids yell.
That’s what your teachers whisper.
That’s what the neighborhood calls you.
That’s just the brand that you wear.
You spend your days
Reading books in dark corners.
You spend your nights
Dreaming whole magic worlds.
You stay away
From their well-behaved flock.
You just don’t care
For their little closed minds.
They think their words can hurt you.
They think they know what you are.
They shake their heads at you sadly.
They wonder why you still smile.
