127 – Ground zero

The ground
Covered in thin, black glass,
Crunches under every step
Of his never-tiring legs.

Broken bits
Of what was once called life
Lie scattered, half melted,
In the barren sand.

How long has he been walking,
Looking for a sign?
How long can he keep searching,
For what he’ll never find?

Scorched walls bear witness
To the man-made stars,
That fell from the sky
When the countdown died.

Silent shadows
Forever fixed in place,
Watching their ashes
Scattered by the wind.

Two metal feet
Carrying rusting hopes,
Keep moving onwards
To no place at all.

A lonely healer
With no one left to heal,
He keeps on looking
For what’s no longer there.

Trapped by the code
Still running in his brain,
In an endless loop
For which there’s no escape.

How long has he been walking,
Looking for a sign?
How long can he keep searching,
Before his battery runs dry?

He cannot feel pain
But deep inside his head,
He keeps endlessly browsing
The meaning of hell.
